Melanie Phillips: Building a Creative Empire Through Ground Sharp Studios

In an industry where creativity meets resilience, Melanie Phillips stands as a force of vision, passion, and purpose. As the founder and owner of Ground Sharp Studios, Melanie is celebrating seven powerful years of elevating talent, producing impactful content, and shaping the future of visual and performing arts.

Born and raised in downtown St. Louis, Melanie’s journey into the arts was never accidental—it was intentional, cultivated, and deeply rooted in education and experience. A proud graduate of Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, with continued studies at Tuskegee University and the Art Institute of Chicago, she took every lesson learned and transformed it into a blueprint for success. Today, that blueprint lives inside Ground Sharp Studios, where artist development is not just a service—it’s a mission.

Melanie’s work extends far beyond the studio. As a writer, director, and actress, she has already carved her name into the film space with her feature film Shirley’s Family Business, now streaming on major platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Tubi. The project stands as a testament to her ability to bring stories to life while opening doors for emerging talent to shine on a national stage.

But what truly sets Melanie apart is her commitment to people. She doesn’t just create—she cultivates. Currently managing rising musical artist Kayylayy, along with comedians LilUglyassfatdude, DeAndrew, and Chris Bow, Melanie has built a pipeline for talent to grow, perform, and gain real exposure. Through her leadership, these artists aren’t just participating in the industry—they’re becoming a part of it.

Her reach doesn’t stop at film or management. Since 2024, Melanie has been the driving force behind the annual Saint Louisiana Comedy Show in New Orleans—a cultural collaboration that brings together comedians from New Orleans and St. Louis for an unforgettable experience. It’s more than a show; it’s a bridge between cities, cultures, and comedic voices that deserve to be heard.

Behind the scenes, Melanie is just as strategic as she is creative. As a property manager with access to a wide range of locations, she offers a unique advantage in the production world—spaces that can seamlessly transform into film-ready environments. This adds another layer to her already dynamic portfolio, making her not just a creator, but a resource.

And while her résumé speaks volumes, her personality brings it all together. A proud Barbizon graduate, a mother of three (“3 BayBay kids,” as she puts it), and a volleyball lover, Melanie balances ambition with authenticity. She’s relatable, driven, and grounded—all at once.

Now, as she reflects on seven years of growth, Melanie isn’t slowing down—she’s leveling up. With her eyes set on collaborating with writers and directors across different states, she’s ready to expand her creative footprint and take Ground Sharp Studios to new heights.

“I love creating. I love being on the road. And I love watching the people I manage grow,” she shares.

That passion is exactly what fuels her next chapter.

Because for Melanie Phillips, this isn’t just a journey—it’s a movement. And Ground Sharp Studios is only getting started.
